About Us

Meet Lea Dibrell

Welcome! I am a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After serving my time in the military, I held several positions where it was my job to wear multiple hats. I’ve been a practice coordinator for a massage therapy company with six locations, co-owned a wellness related franchise business for more than five years and an administrative coordinator for a large division of a national engineering company. I have experienced overwhelm, stress and burnout. I have struggled with feeling inadequate, without focus and wanting more from my life. More purpose, more joy, more satisfaction in daily living.

In my past I have experienced trauma and abuse that left me feeling unworthy, isolated, fearful and angry. I am here to tell you, it is not your fault and you are not alone. I will support you in healing from these hurts, as I have.

My journey has led me to this work! In it I discovered more about what was holding me back. Moved closer to my true self, discovered my core values and developed rules to guide my life. Then I created a vision that includes helping others connect more completely to themselves. It is a process, not a destination. I will guide you as you search for that something ‘more’ in your life. I continue to be dedicated to my personal journey of healing and growth and I invite you to join me. My horses and I are here to support you on your healing journey.

My passion as a Gestaltist is to bring my unique blend of strength, compassion and nurturing guidance to each session. My playful and creative nature lends itself perfectly to the experiential nature of Gestalt coaching. I value deep listening and creating a safe space to explore your own identity and purpose. Together we will look at limiting beliefs, unfinished business, unhelpful strategies, trauma, pain, or anything else you would like to examine during our time together.

About Us

Story of Crooked Tree Journeys

Our journeys are rarely straight or continuous. They meander, pause and sometimes seem to even go backwards for a time. This ‘crooked journey’ is reflective of my own path through life and one of the reasons I ended up here in the Texas Hill Country married to a fifth generation Texan. We live on a beautiful property, with incredible views of the Wimberley Valley. While I was deciding on a name for our new business and thinking about life’s journeys, I was looking out of the window at the oak trees outside and saw each of their unique, perfectly curved and sometimes downright crooked trunks and limbs. The name simply came to me in that moment. Our own journeys reflect the same adaptability as these amazing trees… they live through wind, drought, heat, rainy seasons, sunny days and storms…
…and they thrive!

What is it?

What is Gestalt and why live a Gestalt life?

Gestalt inspires you to become more aware of yourself in the moment. Through the process you will discover more peace and joy in your life. The fundamental principle of Gestalt is a person is made of many parts and those parts are moving into greater wholeness. Progressing toward greater self-awareness by removing self-limiting beliefs, unhelpful strategies, releasing past hurts and healing from your traumas. Gestalt is about living life in the present moment, having self-care rituals and learning to respond to your life (not react to it). Yes, it is about stopping to smell the flowers, while taking responsibility for yourself in a whole new way.

Why Horses?

What difference do horses and nature make?

Whether your journey to us is for profound healing or deep personal work, nature provides the perfect setting to become more aware and connected. There are many studies that suggest spending time in nature can reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and boost your mood. Horses, being part of nature, can do this in a very powerful way, while also increasing your feel good hormones. Nature and Horses teach us more about ourselves in a completely non-judgmental way, opening us up in profound ways to trust ourselves and freeing us to live in the present moment.

The method I utilize for our sessions is the
Equine Gestalt Coaching Method®

The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® (EGCM) was developed by Melisa Pearce, a core founder, of the horse-human healing movement since 1989. The experiential nature of the method involves the horse as an active partner, with the coach, in the client’s exploratory process. The integrative approach of the equine’s interaction combined with positive coaching, somatic awareness guidance and Gestalt methodology, assists the client in examining their life and choices made with a focus on designing a positive future.

EGCM is a Scientifically Proven Method
There were two independent studies, one done in 2017 and another in 2019, both studies showed that 96% of participants felt better about themselves after their EGCM session. To find out more about this study and the benefits of the EGCM click here.

What to Expect in an EGCM Session
Working with horses is an outside adventure and can be dusty. Please dress to be outside and you must wear close toed shoes. You do not need to have any horse experience in order to gain benefits from your session. Interaction with our horses enhances the experience, but is not required. Modifications can be made until you are feeling more comfortable in the presence of a horse. Safety is paramount here at our facility and we will conduct a safety demonstration at the beginning of each session. Reminder all of our work is from the ground, there is no riding or mounted work during our sessions.
